Cozumel | | Downtown Beaches One of the questions we most often receive when fielding inquiries about renting a house or condo in downtown Cozumel is: "How far is it to the beach?" The answer? "The downtown area hasa great oceanfront, but unfortunately there are not too many places that have lots of sand."
Over the years, the sand has been washed away by several hurricanes. It's slowly coming back but the whole downtown stretch is not ready to be again called a beach. And, where there is sand, you'll often find fishing boats that have been pulled up on the beach.
In order to get to a really sandy beach, you'll have to drive 10-15 minutes either north or south of downtown Cozumel.
