| Description A VILLA THAT MAKES A STATEMENT WITHOUT SAYING A WORD
Villa Ranas Sur is an elegant, six-bedroom oceanside villa that is lavish and luxurious--and ideally located. It starts with the extraordinary and gigantic pool that meanders its way through your and the neighboring villa's grounds, and comes complete with an island palapa (a rustic-looking grass hut that’s popular in the tropics), charming bridge, and an oceanfront platform with stairs leading directly into the tranquil waters of the Caribbean, where incredible snorkeling is right at your fins.
The villa is equally exquisite on the inside. It’s like walking into a Mayan art museum, with colorful and one-of-a-kind wall hangings, three-dimensional artwork, and festive furniture like the cacti and bird cage chairs. The centerpiece of the vaulted living room is the massive stone wall that continues outside with a cascading waterfall. All of this, plus the wonderful wall of sliding glass doors leading to the pool, patio, and beach areas will leave you a bit breathless.
Once you do catch your breath, check out the main kitchen, where you will undoubtedly enjoy a lot of great meals and friendly conversation. It is, as you would expect, equipped with every modern convenience and appliances both big and small.
The dining area is brightly colored and beautifully decorated, and offers plenty of seating, with room for an additional six at the kitchen counter--and of course, those amazing views.
Wander down the hall and you’ll find the first six incredible bedrooms--this one is a suite with its own kitchenette, living area, two double beds and a cozy little alcove with a single bed and private bath. This set-up is ideal when multiple families are traveling together and want a little personal space. The suite also has its own private entrance, to minimize foot traffic.
The first floor is also home to a fabulous and well-appointed second bedroom featuring two double beds and a gorgeous private bath. Wind your way up the impressive staircase to find the third bedroom, which offers two single beds, a futon sofa, and a thoughtfully designed private bath.
An outdoor staircase in the entry foyer leads up to the master suite with a private entrance. This suite has a complete kitchen, living and dining area, private bath, a plush king-sized bed, walk-out balcony and mesmerizing ocean views.
The remaining bedrooms are also here and they share a spacious bathroom with plenty of counter and storage space. One bedroom offers two double beds and comes with its own kitchenette, while the other provides a queen-sized bed, private ocean-facing balcony, and access to the rooftop terrace.
And that terrace is an ideal place to get a bird’s-eye-view of the stellar beach, ocean, and surrounding community. Head up here to watch the sun set or simply enjoy the gentle ocean breezes.
Beyond the fantastic furniture, epic views, and incomparable sleeping accommodations, your hosts have included purified drinking water, maid service six days a week, free Wi-Fi, satellite ATV, a safe where you can stow valuables, and even Vonage service that allows you to make no-charge calls to the U.S. and Canada.
This spectacular home sleeps 16--and if you have an extra-large group, you may also rent the neighboring 3,000-square-foot Iguanas Sur villa to accommodate up to 30 guests.
But that’s just scratching the surface—just wait until you see what’s just outside your front door. Yes, it’s the fantastic freshwater pool and the famed white-sand beaches of the Caribbean. Plop down under the palapa, hang out in a hammock, or snorkel and swim to your heart’s content.
Feeling adventurous? Just an easy cab or scooter ride away is the heart of downtown Cozumel, where the cruise ships dock and the tourists flock to find treasures of every kind. There are clothing boutiques and fine jewelry stores, but there's also an abundance of local artisans who sell hand-made fabrics, hammocks, clothing, artwork and more.

Reviews (19) March 7, 2023 Thank you from Cozumel Villas (Heidi Robinson) We stayed a full week in Villa Ranas Sur and I can tell you that you will not be disappointed if you choose to do the same. The view is quite spectacular and I highly suggest watching the sunset from the back yard. The house is great but the two things that truly hit this one out of the park was the chef service with Edgar (the Mole alone was worth the trip) and the daily help from on site care taker, Elmer and his family. He and his wife Elizabeth made sure that any question was answered, everything looked amazing and that we truly got to experience the best that the island has to offer. They are on site but they give you plenty of space and instead just became another amazing part of our family vacation. The house is far enough from down down that its pretty quiet but you still have the beach clubs within walking distance if you want. And the actual city center is just a short taxi ride away. I would recommend utilizing the grocery service or plan on making a run yourself, there aren't any convenience stores close to the house. The room layout is a bit wonky, with one room needing to enter another bedroom for bathroom access, but the outdoor restroom equals it all out. I would take a look at a room sketch so you can see the layout better.
June 13, 2022 Great Stay (Melonie Rush) Communication was excellent & maid was great. Love that it's close to town & the Coral Princess. Excellent snorkeling. Beds were all comfortable, all rooms stayed cool, no moisture.
July 24, 2018 (Ira Rosen) Just want to say thanks for a great week at Villa Ranas Sur.
The house was great for our group of 9 friends.
We enjoyed the easy pick up from our pier by our dive company and the great pool area for post dive fun! The house had plenty of towels, bedding, kitchen ware etc.
And... the staff was helpful as could be.
Will certainly plan a return visit soon.

Located about 15 minutes out of town. Right on the water. Spacious and well thought out. A dock 25 yards away for scuba pick up. On site staff is helpful.
August 10, 2015 very solid vacation rental (anand k.) i was very happy with the rental. Right on the ocean with a great pool. Option for an outdoor fire if it wasn't august. snorkeling off the shore (though you have to climb down about 8 feel on a solid ladder). We had a group of 12 young and middle age adults. Didn't find just renting the one a problem mind you the other was undergoing renovations. Beautiful property both front and back. Small snack shack a bit down the road to the south with more restaurants in some beach clubs about 1/2 mile south. Palancar divers pier (no shop) right next door so you can arrange boat pickups from pretty much any dive operator..incredibly convenient.
Some have complained about 1) hard beds...seems to be taken care of 2) no main house AC (only in bedrooms) so very hot in summer. ..true but..just jump in the pool..it's perfect. and AC in bedrooms is top notch.
The pool area and patio decks (especially the roof) are great. Awesome sunsets to be seen.
Some minor inconvenience with appliances (fridge a little cranky and oven didn't work) but no big issues.
We used the cook service...well recommended.
All in all, i'd strongly recommend especially at the price offered.

Villa was spacious for group of 11. Housekeepers did a good job cleaning. Alex the chef made the week most special, food delicious, even made alterations for our picky eater. Loved location on water and access to beach. Needed improvements: The master bedroom bed had extra padding which needs to be added to all the hard beds. Refrigerator should be replaced, barely chilled drinks. A second frig. should be added for a villa that holds this many guests, or smaller ones in each unit. Villa has peeling/worn off paint on entry doors, worn out, faded upholstery, missing art work, at least remove nails and patch holes. Exterior stucco is molded and needs power washing . Landscaping is so overgrown that only pockets of view can be seen, totally unlike the web pictures.
Directions need to be revised, the driveway is right after the scuba diver statue next door. The wall is white stucco, not brick and the landscaping has grown covering the Villa sign. We were lost for a good while in the dark. In spite of it all, we truly enjoyed our stay and would return with other guests if maintenance issues were tended to. It's the kind of place you would return to year after year. Also, Annette in customer service was most helpful. I would advise questioning the management before passing this one by. It was a stunning Villa at the time of the web pictures and could be again with a little TLC.
December 5, 2014 “Nice, but totally needs updating” (cicero40) We stayed with a group of 20 folks for a birthday party in January. The layout itself was nice but the bedrooms left little to be desired. Our air conditioner was spitting out hot air and the shower was dirty. The furniture is not comfortable and was very, very outdated. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. It's just such a shame that such a BEAUTIFUL property is going to waste - the owner(s) needs to totally revamp the property and update it. All in all, we had a great time. The grounds leading to the ocean were not kept up either. Would I recommend this property? Yes, if you don't have high expectations. Personally, I would not rent from here again.

Reviewer Comments:
We were a group of 20 and these two villas were perfect. Amenities were basic, but what more do you need when you have the Caribbean at your doorstep?! We rented both villas (I think it would be awkward only having one as they really are the same property) and so much deck and balcony space was scattered throughout they we rarely felt like such a large group. No hesitation in recommending these villas.

Reviewer Comments:
We had a great trip. We had a group of family and friends totaling eleven adults. There were more than enough beds for everyone! A word to the wise though, the mattresses were quite firm. One person in our group read similar reviews and brought her own extra padding and slept like a baby. The bedrooms are well air conditioned.
The kitchen could use a little love though- we bought (and left in the house) a new sharp knife. Besides that one, they were all pretty dull. Additionally, there were no basics such as cooking oil and spices, as one might expect in such a vacation home. We easily remedied that situation though with a quick trip into town.
The pool was great. The daily maid service was exceptional- very professional and polite.
We couldn't have asked for a better week! Thank you At Home in Cozumel/VRBO!

Reviewer Comments:
The location and villa were pretty good. We had no problems and enjoyed ourselves. The property is large enough that you can get-away from the group when you want to. The only negatives were that the property could use a barbeque grill (even a cheap one!) and it needs a few more outside chairs / lounges.
July 9, 2013 “Great Location, terrible beds and misquotes” (A FlipKey verified reviewer) Pros: The rental location was perfect and the Chef(Norma) and Staff were also great. This house was in walking distance to the San Francisco Beach, which was amazing. The rental property also had a ladder that went directly to into the Ocean where you could snorkel.
Cons: The misquotes were ridiculous for this time of year. I’m not sure if they are this thick all year around, but we all came back looking like our body’s where put through a meat grinder. We used Deep Woods Off and that didn’t help. I think if the property management sprayed or had a few bug zappers around the house it would have helped. The beds were awful. They were like raised floors. They were so hard everyone had to take Alive in the morning just to be able to walk around that day. We didn’t get much sleep which defiantly had a negative impact on our fun each day.
If the property management would fix the misquote problem and the raised floors they called beds, this house would have been perfect. Until then, I can’t recommend this house to anyone.
June 12, 2013 “Ranas Sur” (Lerryn T.) We rented two houses (Iguanas as well). We encountered severe leaking in multiple rooms in the house. Leaking was so bad one night it soaked through a computer case ruining a laptop, ipad, and work documents. There were also two valve issues in two bathrooms. The caretakers were quick to come clean up and fix the bathrooms but every day we encountered flooding.
September 20, 2012 “Rental 4 of 5” (Chris M.) I personally stayed in the Ranas/Iguanas sister houses and had a great time. The houses are well laid out with the rooms spread out enough to give everyone their personal space. We also had our wedding and reception here for 45 guests and it was the perfect space. The beds were a bit hard but it's Mexico, what do you expect. We have already penciled in our 5 year anniversary in the Ranas/Iguanas because we had that much fun. We had a few minor issues that were generally attended to very quickly and the staff was good.
July 9, 2012 “Great time” (GUENDEL) I came here with my fiancée's family for a week getaway, I had never met them before so it was a whole experience. I arrived by myself and traveled to the villa by myself as well --had no trouble at all finding it. I think we all had a great time and found no major problems except that it may have been a little run down from the photos, most probably from continuous use by large groups of people. We decided to cook ourselves and there were enough utensils to easily do so. The kitchen is not anything luxurious, but it works! The best part was that there is a dock that allows you to walk down and get on your diving boat when they come pick you up, as well as getting back easily after they drop you off. There is also stairs leading to the ocean that you can climb down for snorkeling.
May 28, 2012 “May family vacation” (Stephen O.) Some problems with Air condition in one bedroom that caused some of our party to move and then move again. problem could have been handled better. management person not real helpful
May 17, 2012 “Loved the Houses!” (Stacy L.) We rented both the Villa Ranas and the sister property Villa Iguanas. Both were gorgeous, and exceeded our expectations. The only thing that might improve the property is an outdoor grill.
Thanks for the memories!
January 4, 2012 “Fantastic Way to Bring the New Year In!” (A FlipKey verified reviewer) Villa Ranas accomodations met the needs of 6 couples.
The outside pool area and grounds offered a great place for everyone to gather. Although we were not on the beach we had wonderful access to the water and snorkeling. An additional benefit was that we had easy access to a dock and dive operation.
Ruben and Maria were wonderful in taking care of our needs while there. The cook service was fantastic and would highly recommend it.
Cristina was very helpful in answering all of our questions.
Our group did not want to leave and look forward to coming back soon!
June 27, 2011 “Family Vacation” (A FlipKey verified reviewer) My Husband and I took our 6 adult children and 2 of their spouses on a family vacation. We loved staying at the Villa because we could all be together yet, there was plenty of room for each to have privacy. Roberto and Maria were wonderful, always there to help and did a great job of keeping the villa clean. The website states there is a washer and dryer, however, they were not for guest use but Maria washed our clothes for us which was very nice. The accomodations were wonderful with the exception of a grill which would have been very useful as we did all our own cooking. We recommend the Villa Ranas Sur to everyone!!
May 10, 2011 “Good location for a dive trip” (A FlipKey verified reviewer) The location and villa were pretty good. We had no problems and enjoyed ourselves.
